Ian Crookshank
Dean of Students, Humber College; President, Ontario Association of College and University Housing Officers (OACUHO)

Ian Crookshank recently joined Humber College where he works as the Dean of Students. In his role, Ian oversees a complex and broad portfolio that touches almost all aspects of student learning and wellbeing. Ian is currently the President of the Ontario Association of College and University Housing Officers (OACUHO), a position which acknowledges and utilizes Ian's work within the field of Student Housing at several post-secondary institutions across the province. Ian has worked in post-secondary education since 2003 at four institutions (University of Windsor, York University, Ryerson University, and Humber College), has a Bachelors in Business Administration (Wilfrid Laurier) and a Masters of Education (York University). He believes in thinking about the role empathy can play in process development and in asking questions about who systems were designed for and who were they designed to keep out. He is interested in evolving processes using empathy, how the physical design of space impacts student connection and interaction, and the innovation that comes from exploring areas of friction or tension within our work. In relation to Campus Housing, Ian is interested in how physical and programmatic design can support community building and wellbeing, how changing enrollment demographics align with current housing priorities, and how to balance a student learner-centered approach with evolving financial pressures and models. Ian is an avid cyclist, recreational athlete, a fan of all things Star Wars but most importantly a dedicated father and partner.
