Dr. Marcelo Vieta is an assistant professor in Adult Education and Community Development and in the Collaborative program in Workplace Learning and Social Change at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE). He is a co-founder and an executive committee member of the Centre for Learning, Social Economy & Work (CLSEW). Vieta researches and teaches on workplace and organizational learning and social change, alternative economic arrangements, the sociology of work, economic democracy, the social and solidarity economy, the philosophy of technology, and Critical Theory. Regionally, he specializes in Latin America, Canada, the US, and Italy. In recent years, Marcelo has been teaching, researching, and publishing on the historical conditions, the political economic contexts, and the lived experiences of the worker-recuperated enterprises of Argentina and Italy, as well as issues with youth and student housing and cooperative alternatives.
Vieta brings to StudentDwellTO a deep interest in community-driven social change. He contributes to the project data gathering and research support via a sociological and political economic lens focused on identifying current challenges to student housing and innovative solutions to these challenges from the social economy.
