Design for Dwelling Studio

This project is about the design of an affordable student housing unit, and community, and how it can become a temporary student home while students are engaged in studies.

As urban real estate continues to escalate, and rental unit vacancies become scarce, students find it difficult to find affordable housing near their institutions, and many are forced to commute as many 2- 3 hours a day, to and from their schools.  This project is about  the design of an affordable student housing unit, and community, and how it can become a temporary student home, while they are engaged in studies.

The definition of  “home” - ’a place where one likes to be; a restful or congenial place’ (Wikipedia). How does a design accommodate individuality? Are a student’s needs assessed by the inhabitant’s ability to function and to organize personal belongings, to serve their lifestyle, to engage in social activities, and to support student projects and study etc.? What degree of sophistication and civility do you detect that needs to be designed to accommodate their lifestyle?
